Blew it (twice)

“Wednesday April 10th 1986

After days on end of cloud and cold, the sun has returned. Yesterday I—no, day-before-yesterday—I wrote a letter to Supervisor Larson of TNF, opposing the proposed clear-cut plan. Blind copied Cranston, Wilson, and Shumway.

Yesterday Alex stopped by and with Dave Black we went out to the Polar Star pit and did some prospecting. Got quite a bit of amalgam, but blew it trying to burn off the mercury. Fun though; today we plan to go down to the Bear, perhaps at Smart's Crossing, and do some more.”

Subject: TNF land acquisitions & the Sierra Club

Hi all,

I have apparently raised the ire of the good John Moore of the Sierra Club. He writes:

“The Sierra Club does NOT ‘favor limiting acquisitions in the North Fork American’ to the parcels that would be purchased by the LWCF appropriation for the next fiscal year which environmentalists are campaigning for.”

I hope this clears up any misunderstanding I may have caused. John's a good guy and has done a ton for the North Fork, I couldn't thank him enough.

Cheers,

Russell Towle
